Sometimes being a mom is awesome.
Sometimes it totally stinks.
Something I don't understand is why all three of my children continue to fight and argue with us after we've laid down any decision. Why make it worse? If anything, the punishments or "consequences" just keep piling on and everything gets worse and everyone gets more ticked off.
Like today, for instance. Last Saturday night, G had made plans to go out with Z and his sister to the corn maze in Snohomish. But she didn't complete her work. Thought she could just sneak out under the radar and not have it done. Well, no. She couldn't. When I tried to remind that her she needed to finish her work before she left in a few hours, she kinda gave me the "whatever" look. Well, by 6:45 the work was still not completed and I asked Howie to come upstairs for reinforcements.
He said, "You can get it done G. They can wait for you...." Well, that went over like a ton of bricks. After a huge tantrum and slamming of doors, then a few choice words fell out of my beautiful, innocent girl.... I accidentally threw, I mean dropped, her phone down onto the front entryway from the second floor. Splat. Phone guts everywhere.
She has been working hard this week to get her chores done, thus earning her points to get her phone back. I suppose she might have been hoping for the new iPhone 7.... dream big! ... well she was informed today that we are happy to let her use K's phone for now. Again, the poop hit the fan. Continuing to argue with Howie and I in the car (where we had guests as well!), it turned into her being grounded for the week.
Classic move for G. She has, since birth, had the need to "show us" that she has the power, not us. No matter if she loses her phone or her nose, her bedroom door or her right arm, she is bound and determined to show us that she holds the power. When will she get it that all that power is getting her is more problems / punishments / consequences that she won't like????? And get over the delusion that all we want to do is punish her and take away things from her to make her life miserable. I've got better things to do with my time than plan her torture.
On the upside, today was the last soccer game of the season for K. We had the Cherry Bomb team party at our house this morning and it was lots of fun. Her coach, Bryan Smith, is awesome. It's K's third year on his team and he has come to appreciate her quirks and growls.
Howie's donut wall made an appearance - people thought it was 3D art at first! Then when the girls realized those donuts were for eating? It was all over. Pizza, root beer and grapes at 10:30 in the morning make for really hyper girls, which was good considering they played in serious mud today!
After a week of PTA fundraiser pizza and limo rides, distribution of goodies, banking, cooking, writing clubbing, cleaning, laundering, nursing (K had her tonsils out last Thursday...), I am one grouchy mom, indeed.
