Sunday, 2/27

We left Hokitika and road to Greymouth, which lands us back on our original plans (the last few days being plan changes due to earthquake) and added 20 km onto out route. This was a big area for gold rushes in 1864. Today, some of our cyclemates were injured as they went over some train tracks at a bad angle and ended up falling. She dislocated her shoulder and getting a big goose egg over her left eye. They are fine and continue with us - their care at the ER was free because it was "an accident." We road over the Taramakau River, had lunch at an ale house (yes, a beer place on a Sunday! and they served us gourmet icecream made with beer! Needless to say, we passed on that).

We continued our ride onto Fox Glacier where we then hiked up to the glacier. It was amazing - Howie has been on a glacier before and I was years ago in Switzerland, but it was still stunning all the same. Made me feel very insignificant in the realm of all that surrounded us.

We road 41 km on flat road today along Tasmen Sea, it was beautiful and fantastice! Our maximum speed was 67 kph and our tour total is now 220 km. Crazy! SO much fun!!!
